Book Meme

Stolen from ducktheduck 01. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?

Not routinely enough to constitute a habit.  I'd say that sometimes I do, but only if I  happened to be wanting a snack anyway.

02. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?

The only time I ever marked a book was highlighting for university.  I cringe at even writing my name inside the covers when I lend them out.

03. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?

There are some books that will dog-ear, but only if they are well-used paperbacks.  All other books (and those previously dog-eared if I can) I use some form of bookmark.  Usually the big card paper ones I get from the bookstore when I buy them.

04. Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?

Fiction.  Ocassionally historical fiction where there are elements of non-fiction included, but the main story is fictional.

05. Hardcopy or audiobooks?

Hardcopy.  I have never listened to an audiobook.

06. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?

If at all possible I will finish the chapter, but will settle for pausing at some natural break in the text within a chapter.  Very rarely do I stop before the section/chapter does.

07. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Write it down to look it up later? Just try to infer what it means from the rest of the sentence, and keep going?

It depends.  Generally it's easy enough to figure out the essential meaning of the word while I'm reading and if I remember, I'll look it up later.  Sometimes I have no clue and so I'll look it up right away.

08. What are you currently reading?

Obviously, I can't read both hardcopy fiction and fanfiction at the same time.  I haven't read a book since I got back into reading fanfic.  I'm sure this will correct itself eventually.

09. What is the last book you bought?

Um . . . I'm actually not sure.

10. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can read more than one at a time?

Books I usually like to do one at a time, but I've carried two at a time in the past.  Fanfiction, well, I'll often end up reading two stories simultaneously while also writing (weird but it works).

11. Do you like re-reading books?

I am a definite re-reader.  Certain books/series will always have a home on my shelf and I will read them lots.  The Clan of the Cave Bear series, Harry Potter, novels by Juliet Marillier, my Star Wars books, and a few select others are examples of things I've read at least three or more times.

And because, why not make this the official 12th question?  Here are my book shelves :D  At least, the two organized and uncluttered enough to share.  With out basement renovations, my office is a bit of a catch-all at the moment.  These are a mixture of novels (some stacked two deep and two high), text books, and university binders I want to eventually go through before throwing away.  I have boxes full of books and photo albums and such things just waiting their own shelf space.
