Don't you hate it when . . .

. . . you were writing a scene but had to leave to do something in town (appointment, whatever), and while you're out, your mind comes up with THE PERFECT bit of dialogue or description or whatever to complete the scene.  So you're out and about and think over the idea for a little bit, figuring that you'll just be able to go and write it when you get home, but when you get there, you can't remember exactly what it was - what was that word?  Did Spike say this or that?

This happened to me today.  I was floating down a river in an inflatable boat and thought of a great bit of dialogue for one of the fics I'm writing, and now I just can't get it to sound/feel like what I came up with.

:(

I always carry a small notebook to jot down bits of dialog and ideas because that happens to me ALL THE TIME. What I hate is when I can't read the bloody notes LOL.

Oh, I have notebooks in my car and work bag, and always have scraps of paper in my purse, but I had nothing, nothing! with me on the river but my darn unreliable brain!

Honey, I can write the stuff and later let my husband read it, but there's no way I'm saying dirty Spike talk out loud while floating down the river with actual people, lol!

Besides, we left the phone in the car!

However . . . I'm totally using that idea next time inspiration strikes and I'm nowhere near a writing tool!

Oh I do that all the time. One of my coworkers and I make a habit of insulting each other using British slang and accents whenever we work together.

In my past life, when I worked in fast food, I used to work Saturday night graveyard shift and take all the drive-thru orders with a British accent, and sometimes the Kid asks me to "talk like Spike" when we go out places. Except sometimes I end up sounding more like Paul McCartney.

lol--Paul McCartney...

I've noticed my British accent sounds better when people aren't listening. Otherwise, I start to feel, and eventually sound silly :P

I hear ya. I do it best around the Kid because she thinks I'm amazing at it . . . I am pretty good at times but yeah, self consciousness = slipping accent.

That's why I prefer writing Spike. I can do that with both hands tied behind my back. Well, not literally, but you get the picture :P

One time, I had an idea...in like the middle of the night, so I called my cellphone, and talked in my Spike voice so I wouldn't forget the awesome dialogue.

Yeah, I'm one of those creepy writers :P

I did a voice recording into my MP3 player while driving once for the very same reason. I've also used my digital camera in the same setting and wound up with some lovely video of my thighs while I recorded myself speaking whatever brilliant idea I'd come up with.
