Banner making

Still dabbling with making things in photoshop aside from my usual photograph editing and christmas cards.

I've been slowly building myself a website, doing the coding myself as a sort of a challenge.  I'm pretty much up to date with the Buffy pages and so I started working on the pages for my older Star Wars fics.  Now, after doing Buffy pages, many of which have pretty banners, I noticed that my Star Wars stories didn't look quite as nice without a piece of artwork to go with them.

So, I made one.

For you non-Star Wars fic friends (that would be all but four of you), this is for a story called Best Intentions that I started in 2004.  It's not finished (may not ever be), but it's probably my best work from that time, and it's a favourite.   Banner starring Josh Hartnett as Jag Fel and Michelle Trachtenberg-turned-blonde as Tahiri Veila.

Very nice! I have very little knowledge of Star Wars or its characters, but I think this is great nonetheless.

Thanks! And thanks for looking. I don't expect anyone to really know these characters as they're from the books set after the movies.

Now that it's finished I see a ton of things I want to fix, but I guess that's part of the banner making learning curve.

Have any suggestions about where I could improve it? Oh banner making goddess?

I know what you mean about seeing things you want to fix. I do it all the time... and then I'll look back at things I made months ago and thought were perfectly all right at the time, but that I now hate.

Um... my only suggestion would be to make the edges around the characters a little more defined. They're faded in places, and there are some white edges left behind... I don't have Photoshop, so I'm not sure if this works there -- but in my program, using the erase brush with the right click mouse button will un-erase areas that have been deleted, so you could try that?

Actually that part was what was bugging me! (That, and I forgot to change JH's eye colour). But it shouldn't be as complicated as that because the faded parts I believe are the top layer of texture that I didn't fully erase from their faces, and the white lines are left over from cutting them out. So just a little more tweaking :) Thanks for the feedback :D

And you said you weren't able to make banners for your own stories...! This is great. :)

LOL, yes. I wasn't specifically thinking of Michelle to represent Tahiri but I absolutely loved this picture of her. The hair ended up pretty red looking but it's supposed to be blond, lol.
