WIP meme

Taken from slaymesoftly , because I was trying to work on some of these but the muse isn't biting tonight . . .

When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

I have far too many works-in-progress and a couple that might be coming soon that I don't want to share here, but here's a few tidbits. . .

#1 - From a possible follow-up to Bake Me a Bloody Cake

Setting aside the large book in her lap, Willow swung her plaid pajama-covered legs out of bed, stretching her arms over her head.  “I was starting to think,” she said, on the heels of a yawn, “that Spike finally managed to talk you to death.  It’s been hours!  Where was Giles for so long?”

Buffy couldn’t quite hide the hint of a smile that slipped onto her face despite her best attempt at smothering it, and she was thankful that Willow only had the one lamp lit, for the warmth in her cheeks that hadn’t fully dissipated from the evening’s earlier events flared into a fresh red flush.  Turning away from Willow to set her things, including the plastic container holding her half of the rest of the cake, on her bed, Buffy hesitated, unsure of exactly how to broach the subject of just what exactly had occurred during Giles’s extended absence.

“Buffy?”

Evidently, Willow had noticed avoidy-Buffy.  When Buffy faced her again, her roommate’s brow had that slightly furrowed look that suggested she’d picked up on Buffy’s need-to-talk vibes.

Buffy sighed and slumped down on her bed, wincing slightly from the sudden pressure on pleasantly sore muscles quite unaccustomed to the amount of use they’d seen that evening.  “I really need to talk to you, Will,” she admitted, looking down at her lap.  “I mean, if that’s okay . . .?”

Willow’s intuitive furrow morphed into a hint of a remorseful pout.  “I’m gonna have to bake more cookies, aren’t I?” she groaned, lower lip thrusting out petulantly.  “You did listen to me when I needed it . . . I was just too poor-me-mopey to remember that it’s not always all about Willow . . .”

“No cookies necessary,” Buffy answered, reaching behind her for the container.  “But I have cake!”

The lip disappeared and Willow smiled in acknowledgement of Buffy’s silent forgiveness.  “Wow, that’s . . . kind of red, isn’t it?  Where’d you get it?”

Up against the kitchen wall, on the kitchen floor, in the shower . . . twice . . .

“Um . . .”

#2 - A bunny inspired by a certain month's characters for the good_evil comm that never got past three paragraphs:

He should have realized that she would come.  She always was the sort who did not give up easily and he should have remembered that.  Her initial attempts at swaying his decision had been just that – the first ploy in tempting him back into the fold.  All things considered, her tactics were sound.  How was she to realize that the players had changed when she hadn’t been around to see it?  As far as Darla was concerned, Drusilla had left him and he was still every bit as hopelessly in love with her sanity-challenged grandchilde-cum-sire as he ever was.

#3 - From a might-be-epic-length WIP that I might post someday.

“How long was I out?”

“Two days,” Willow answered.  “Spike’s been in and out since yesterday, mostly just long enough to take some blood and fall asleep again.  I have no idea how he managed to get over there.  He’s hardly moved at all before now.  You’re both pretty beat up.”

“I feel like I jumped off a hundred foot tower and forgot to die.”

“You kinda look it, too,” Willow replied.

“Did you know, Will?”

Willow’s eyes flicked to the sleeping vampire, then back to Buffy.  “No, not until I saw you fighting.”  She paused, and Buffy could see that Willow didn’t want to say whatever was coming next.  “But, sorry, Buffy . . . Giles did.”

#4 - Another bunny

It all seemed so surreal now, in the aftermath.  The master was gone, she’d made it to the dance, and her dress wasn’t so badly ruined that her mother had noticed anything amiss.  Only the sting of the wounds on her neck and the lingering soreness in her chest reminded her how close to death she had truly come tonight.

No, Buffy amended, staring into the mirror at the pale face she hardly recognized, not close.  I was dead.  I died.

#5 - A possible companion 'fic to Whispers and its unnamed sequel that's still in bunny stage, too.  Dawn's take (in diary form) on what everyone else is too blind to notice.

I’ve now reached the conclusion, given the evidence:

a) Buffy’s in a ridiculously good mood,
b) there are bite marks on her neck likely caused by Spike, and
c) she keeps playing with said bite marks and making interesting faces that I sooo don’t want to analyze further

That however it happened, Buffy likes that Spike bit her, and it’s made her happy.  I’m completely in love with the idea of where this might be going.

#6 - And another bunny, the bunny-childe of Anywhere:

“Let’s walk, Buffy,” he suggested, finding her hand again and feeling a jolt of relief when she immediately laced her fingers with his.  “And I’ll start from the beginning, all right?”

“All right,” she agreed, rising with him as he stood.  “But promise me something, okay?”

“What’s that?”

She smirked and turned to face him, taking his other hand in hers.  “If I get mad enough at you to run away, promise me you won’t let me go.”

“Sweetheart,” he said, chuckling softly at her amused determination.  “There’s not a chance in hell I’m lettin’ you get away now.”

You. Are. A. Tease.

Please post soon. ;D

:D

I tease, because I love . . .

Not sure when/if any of these will actually end up completed, but I am working on two things for posting in the near future . . .

I liked #3 and #4 as possibilities...

Those are the two most likely ones. That epic-length one has reached chapter ten on my computer but the snippet there is from the proposed chapter twenty three.

Oh my word, you ARE a tease! hahaha All of them have me interested, but I am absolutely enthralled by the bit of might-be-epic-length tale you've posted. I want to know more of that, like now.

And as (seemingly) one of the few people in this fandom who likes Dawn, I'd really like to see what you can do with #5.

I probably will post that one, eventually. It's actually the first Spuffy fic I started writing, but because I knew it was going to be a loooong one, I didn't want to post it right away and now it needs a ton of work to fix up the beginning parts. I'm afraid I won't finish it, so that's held me back, too.

I do like Dawn. I hate whiney!Dawn, but I can see the potential for her character and I like it. I love Dawn/Spike friendship. She actually has a large role in that epic-length one, too. #5 won't happen until I get the on-hold Whispers sequel written though, since there's overlap but I want to tell the story first from Spike and Buffy's PoV.

I like even whiny!Dawn. I don't mean to say that she should always be whiny, but, hey, she's at that age and has some issues. I get why she's whiny. Though the "GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT!" thing gets old, fast. hahaha And tangentially, Spike & Dawn as anything more than friends is about one of the ewwiest things I can imagine. (I'm making a Mr. Yuck face right now, which is drawing a questioning stare from my office mate. :D)

And while I was here replying, I re-read the snippets, and I want to lobby for #4 bunny to see the light of day, too. Pre-show canon entry for Spike has such interesting possibilities. Assuming the story is Spike/Buffy, of course!

I don't mind when Dawn is whiney at times, it's the all-whine, all-the-time Dawn (mostly seen in fanfic, unfortunately) that I don't like. And I agree . . . Spike and Dawn as anything other than friends deserves the Mr. Yuck face.

#4 - It is Spuffy, or it will be, but not pre-canon despite the setting of that snippet. I'd explain but . . . well, you'll read what I mean if I ever get around to posting it.

*agrees with the tease comments*

All of these sound really great... am very intrigued by the epic-length-WIP.

I think I'm going to have to start working on it again, since everyone seems to like that one, though that scene up there happens in the latter half of the story.

I want all of them please. :D

I'd love to oblige, but I'm thinking that of all of them, I'm most likely to share numbers 3,4, and 5.

I'm glad that you've been rendered curious by these! I really really hope to give you #3 someday as well as #5, so you picked a good two to favourite!
