Monster Drabbles (#21-25)

These were written for good__evil , and their October Monster Madness! Each day of the month belongs to a different monster, and authors post their drabbles on the designated day. I've managed one for each day so far.  These are from October 21st to the 25th and represent troll, Medusa, banshee, cyclops, and centaur.

Title: No Goats Here
Author: Abelina (Abby)
Word Count: 100
Monster: Troll

“You have got to be kidding me!”  Spike blinked at the sight in front of him.

“Uh, Spike?”  Buffy tugged on his sleeve.  “I don’t think he’s kidding.”

They stood at the start of the bridge, waiting.

The ugly creature standing in the middle of the bridge banged his knobbly staff on the deck.  “I said, who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?”

Spike strode towards him, Buffy on his heels.  He stomped his foot and banged his staff again.

“My bridge!” he said.  “Now I’m going to gobble you up!”

Spike snorted.  “Oh I’d love to see you try!”

Title: Bad Hair Day
Author: Abelina (Abby)
Word Count: 100
Monster: Medusa

“Good God, and I thought I was having a bad hair day!”  Buffy ran a hand over her own unruly locks before gripping her sword tighter.

“Even on your worst day—”  Spike dodged a snapping mouth and jumped back to avoid the creature’s gaze  “—your hair—”  he swung his axe and another wriggling serpent fell to the ground “—doesn’t bite!”

Buffy took out another snake and advanced on the monster.  “You should really think about—” thwack “—finding a new—” thunk “—stylist!”

“Think it’s—” squelch “—a bit late for that, love!”

Title: Screamin’ Good Time
Author: Abelina (Abby)
Word Count: 100
Monster: Banshee

Buffy pressed her hands over her ears, unable to suppress the full-body shudder in response to the ungodly scream.  On and on it went, the shrill, whaling cry that made Buffy grit her teeth against the pain in her eardrums.

“Make it stop!” she said, raising her voice above the ear-piercing screech.

Spike, who had his hands plus two pillows over his extra sensitive ears, grimaced and shook his head.  “Tried to! Only made it worse!”

“This can’t go on!”  Buffy winced as the screaming increased in intensity.

Spike made a pained face.  “It’ll stop.  Dawn’ll need to breathe eventually.”

Title: Lessons
Author: Abelina (Abby)
Word Count: 100

“In order to achieve the most effective ratio between power and control, you must—Kennedy, was there a question?”

“Nope, I don’t have any.”

“Right then.  Where was I?  Oh yes, you see—yes, Rona?”

I didn’t say anything.”

“Unlikely, but moving on.  The trick, you see, is to find the balance—Shannon?  What was that?”

“N-nothing.  I changed my mind.”

“For girls with nothing to say, you’re awfully chatty.  Now—oh for heaven sakes, Vi, spit it out or shut up!”

“Well, we were wondering...”

“Did you know that you only have one eye?”

Title: Family Time
Author: Abelina (Abby)
Word Count: 100
Monster: Centaur

“Look, Mama, a horsey!”

Buffy looked up from the pram at her son, facing away from her, his arm pointing across the park.  Distracted by his unruly curls and struck by how much his stance mirrored his father’s, even at three, Buffy nearly missed the horsey.

When she did see it, she called William back.  They watched the horsey, whose body was indeed that of a horse, save the part of him that was distinctly man-like, prance around the nearly deserted park, laughing with a smaller replica of himself.

Smiling, Buffy took her own little replicas over to say hello.

You've done a great job on these, and to stick to 100 words each time is impressive.

I couldn't not write Dawn = Banshee, even though normally I hate when she's written as only a whining child. This seemed like a good idea, though!

And I've had so much fun writing these! It's a challenge keeping the word count exact, but it's been a blast!
